While we are waiting for the highly anticipated update from Palm which will bring HotSync support to Classic users, we wanted to show you how it works. Seeing is believing, right?
So, let’s HotSync on Pre.

Will we also be able to Hotsync data to/from Classic apps like Pocket Quicken and eWallet?
will it support all conduits then?
will the hotsync app have to be reinstalled, ie. the version compatible with MotionApps Hotsync?
is there any limitation on network hotsync over the internet? or any reason why that wouldn't work?
obviously there are firewall and port considertations, but I had that working with my old treo 755p. I'm just wondering if there's any reason built into this version why that wouldn't work?
thanks
Lynn,
Yes, you should be able to do so - as long as your Palm OS apps are using standard HotSync features for syncing with desktop (inlcuding conduits), you will be ok.
Dave,
Yes, it will support all conduits - if they work on Centro/Palm Desktop they should work with Classic.
You will not need to (re)install anything - everything you need for syncing will be bundled with Classic.
There is no reasons why this setup shouldn't work on Classic - if you have resolved these issues that you are mentioning, Classic's HotSync will work the same as on Centro.
Will it work with Macs?
This sounds like it only works with WIFI or Wireless Connections. What about USB and Bluetooth Hotsyncs. I can only use USB at work. No WIFI is available at work. I may be able to do a Bluetooth adapter, but my desktop doesn't come with any wifi or bluetooth cards. So I really would like to get either the SPRINT network to provide a HTTP Hotsync Conduit through Sprint.com or Palm.com or support sometype of "TouchStone" Sync Process on the PRE. Also, Wouldn't it be valuable to Create a way to Backup all our classic stuff via an Encrypted Text File on Google that the PRE can Automatically Sync with the Rest of the PRE Data that Syncs with our Google/Palm account. Maybe by creating a Palm.com or Google.com Encrypted Text File (Large Zip Memo) that contains all our Classic Data, a new Conduit App could be written to then convert the Hotsync (Encrypted Text File) to work with the Palm Pre Backup process so both are done at the same time or at least the Text file is available to do Hotsync Decode. Does this sound too complicated? Maybe because I thought Palm would be backwards compatible. Now we have to create other Work arounds.
Yes, what about Macs???
Definitely looking for Bluetooth support here. I use jpilot to sync my Centro with my Linux laptop, and it really works well. This is one of the few things keeping me from the Pre or Pixie! :)
Dear MotionApps...
This is BIG. Are you officially announcing that you have tried Pocket Quicken and can sync it with Quicken on a PC.
There are tons of folks out on the internet who have been waiting to buy an iPhone or a Pre... but have been waiting for the first of the two phones to provide Pocket Quicken (or in this case the ability to use Classic Palm apps with a newer phone).
I have been waiting to trade in my Treo... just dying for one of these new phones. Really would like a Pixi but since it has no Wifi...
I digress... have you certified Pocket Quicken yet?
O.k. webos 1.2 is out... does Pocket Quicken now work with Classic???
How do i find my IP Address?
How long will hotsync take if you have many contacts (2000) and many calendar events (6000)?
Could we get step by step directions on how to set up the computer and the palm pre in order to sync. I have wifi on my computer but I cannot get the hot sync to work no matter what I do. The video isn't helping me. Thank you!
start-run-type "cmd"-type "ipconfig" and voilà!
That is awesome to be able to hotsync.
Now we need some shortcuts from the Launcher of the palm pre WebOs to go directly in our "classic apps".
ex: Calendar shortcut that would lead us directly in the calendar of the palm emulator.
