Classic v2.0.1 is out and about

New in the App Catalog for November 12th includes a free update of Classic for existing users, so all of you can head over to the Classic listing in the Catalog and download it.

The most important brought to you with this update are major improvements in Classic performance, but we also improved overall user experience: tweaked a few menu options and added notifications that will enable you get help from us faster than before in certain cases. We also fixed some minor bugs, but in this post, we’d like to report about it all in the form of a little homage to our people in the Classic forum at PreCentral.

psm9 is reporting that a “weird bug with unresponsiveness is fixed”, iamtina appreciates the speed in v2.0.1, bbaratz also notices that touch screen unresponsiveness is now fixed and doctorzeph summarizes all these and questions if it is just imagination. It’s real, and we are happy that we managed to improve it for you.
Thanks to ChasT for spreading the word.

Now we go back to work on remaining issues, but before that, we might celebrate v2.0.1 release a little based on what TomJ reports about the essential app for celebrating:)

Pocket Quicken now Classic Certified

Over the past couple of weeks, we worked with Pocket Quicken crew from LandWare, to Certify the app for Classic, and thus make official all the positive reports we received from you.

The reports agree in one thing: this valuable app is working well in Classic, and is recommended by longtime Palm OS users as well as new Palm webOS adopters. The release of HotSync ability with Classic v2.0 only closed the circle, and as the member of Classic forum, ssrjazz said: “My Pocket quicken loves you”. Current Pocket Quicken owner Charles W. reports: “Got it! Works great without any [pop-up] notice.” And Renee M. simply states: “Thank you. It works.”

If you are new to Pocket Quicken, here is a short description: “Pocket Quicken places your financial activity at your fingertips making it easy to keep your financial information complete, accurate and up-to-date wherever you go.” More details, features and screenshots are available here. LandWare is also excited to announce that their software can also sync with Quicken 2010 and Windows 7.

The Classic Certified file can be downloaded from LandWare website where you’ll also find excellent instructions on how to set it up. If you are not already a Pocket Quicken owner, you can install the software as a fully functional 30-day trial. We’re also featuring it in the list of Classic Certified apps. If you are a developer, you can learn why and how to Certify your app here.

(Thanks to LandWare and MotionApps support team for contributing to this post)

OnTimeRx now comes preloaded in Classic

We teamed up with AmeliaPlex, developer of a very useful medical application called OnTimeRx, to include it within a bundle you can get the minute you install Classic.

This decision was based on users’ feedback and the awareness that this application serves as a very important medical tool to many. Now any user with Classic can install OnTimeRx and use the trial for 30 days before purchasing. OnTimeRx can be installed in Classic together with other preloaded apps with a single tap on Install Free Apps option from Classic menu.

Susan Torrico, President/CEO of AmeliaPlex states: “The Palm version of OnTimeRx software is the BEST medication reminder program available anywhere. It's a mature, feature-rich application that has been thoroughly tested and enhanced based on suggestions from actual users."

“AmeliaPlex is one of the companies we’ve been working since the beginning of Classic Certification Program, they were our Launch Partners, and I know that MotionApps team really enjoyed working with them. We also received confirmations from our users that being able to use OnTimeRx on their Pre phone is of critical importance to them so we decided to make it available to Classic users right away” said our CEO, Mr. Voja Lalich.

Here is one of the notes received from a real user, which influenced our decision to include OnTimeRx with Classic:
“I'm still using a Palm TX and a Win Netbook combo for as long as I can :-) But if and when the TX finally dies, it looks like the Palm Pre may be in my future, because I sure can’t do without OnTimeRx. I look forward to many more years of using OnTimeRx on my Palm or Pre...”

Read more stories from OnTimeRx users at the OnTimeRx blog and learn about the program itself at http://www.ontimerx.com/.

The Missing Sync and Classic – a friendship that Mac users will love!

In a newsletter that Mark/Space, Inc., developer of The Missing Sync, sent out few days ago, there is an overview of how The Missing Sync and Classic work together. We wanted to add our two cents and let you know that we have tried this as well and got great results.

You can check out the original newsletter at Mark/Space website.

The Missing Sync is also featured on our website as a way to sync Classic on Pre phones with Mac computers, since conventional Palm Desktops are not supported on Macs as they are on PCs, in terms of network connection.

We hope the “fruit fans” will enjoy both products.

More details about the native Missing Sync for Palm Pre on both PC and Mac can be found at Mark/Space website.

(Thanks to Mark/Space crew for excellent instructions and write-up!)

Classic in Europe – reports we are getting from Germany say that Classic is not the latest v2.0

At the same time Pre hit Europe, we’ve received many reports from our users in Germany about missing features in 2.0.
They indicated that HotSync feature - and its icon we were so happy about here in the US only a week ago - was not there. Other things too...

It turns out that Pre phones in Europe are still on 1.1 ROM and that is keeping Classic from switching itself to 2.0 as we need that 1.2 ROM (this may sound like a riddle but it is now). Consequence for Pre owners using Classic in Europe is that HotSync and other v2.0 features will not be available until Palm releases 1.2 ROM to their Pre.

We are working with Palm to determine what exactly is the situation at this point and will follow-up on our blog.
The best we can do is to ask our European users to be patient and wait for the next update from Palm which should bring them the latest Classic as well.

Tschüss and Cheers!

Classic v2.0 (re)trial now available for all our users, free of charge

Since v2.0 has been released, many of you contacted us to ask for retrial period and we’ve seen same interest in the PreCentral forums, so the logical step for us was to find a way to enable another fully functional trial period for all the users that already tried Classic before, and thus used trial period.

All of you can now try Classic v2.0 release to evaluate it once again or for the first time, and to see how (well) it compares to previous version. Your (re)trial period is good for the next 10 days.

Your can download Classic from App Catalog on your Pre and find helpful info on our website within Tech Spec page, overview page and detailed HotSync tutorial.

Cheers!
